I always find it a bit of a conflict going back to basics as you suggest to resolve issues, whilst continuing to practice and play current pieces which results in me blowing and forcing’ instead of just releasing!

Hi all
I’m still plugging away with the course (currently mid way through Moderato). Recently, I’ve been practising/playing most days for an hour or so in the lead up to two separate gigs with my big band and small jazz combo. Following the performances the problem I’m now encountering is that my lips feel so tired that I’m struggling to reach…[Read more]

A big thank you for all of your responses which have given me renewed incentive. As we all know, trying to develop new habits, especially when working solo can be a challenge and it is a real boost to receive so much constructive input and advice from others that are on the same journey. Thanks again…(two steps forward, one step back!).

Hi all, I am currently in the middle of the Moderato stage having been gradually making my way through the course over 2 years or so. A few months ago I had a ‘eureka’ moment when (for a few weeks) I actually felt more relaxed when playing and I found it easier to play faster harmonic slurs etc and also produce an improved sound. Unfortunately,…[Read more]

Hello all, I haven’t posted for as I’ve been happily progressing with the course (two steps forward and one step back!). If I play the passages more slowly to try and overcome this, the…[Read more]
