Yep, Bill–here it is:
Start at 20:19 (note: Greg says he doesn’t describe this as an embouchure change but “sensation development”)
The building bit starts at 21:03 or thereabouts.
But the WHOLE video is great, so you might want to go back and watch it again like I did.
Good luck!

I think the other might have been Trumpet Chat 7″ or “Is playing trumpet life or death” or something like that.

I think this is the playing in the red one:

Sounds good, Francis. I hope my post was helpful. If you’d like, you could post a video of you playing the horn so we can see your setup, etc. We / someone else on here / Greg may see something that could help you.

Francis, great video and I agree with Peter, neither looks right to me.
In the video, you say you’re not pinching–while that is true, it appears to me that both of the movements you demonstrated involve miving your lips closer together top-to-bottom, rather than tightening the aperture horizontally towards the air column.
Inevitably, you…[Read more]

I think this video is even more applicable / relevant:
And it does mention that tongue is involved in shape.

Thought this was great / might help.
Best,
John

Tighten the aperture from the sides towards the air column. Its a slight, less is more, movement–only as much as needed.
I uploaded my videos to YouTube ( unlisted) then posted a link.
Good luck!

Here’s a great video from Greg on this.

Thanks Peter–yours is a great post as well, I do what you describe too and that helps me as well. I don’t think I ever could get as fast as Greg as I don’t know that my mind could even comprehend 208 bpm or whatever he got up to; that’s amazing.

I don’t do Facebook, but it’s very possible to do harmonic slurs with bad form. I did for 20+ years and still catch myself occasionally reverting back to clamping my lips in the middle top-to-bottom, which you can get away with on the staff…
But as you ascend higher, and the aperture gets smaller, clamping top-to-bottom in the middle of your…[Read more]

Thanks Peters, I like Jason’s videos; he seems like a great guy and player and makes beautiful horns.
I don’t believe it is correct that Greg includes tongue position in his definition of shape, he specifically mentions that tongue does not control pitch it just impacts the quality of the sound.
Some methods attribute tongue arch/level to…[Read more]

Thanks. I was thinking about something similar yesterday–if you never give up, you will succeed. Or, I was thinking about posting something like “I FIGURED IT OUT! Again…for the first time…”
I’ve realized it’s not one “coffee moment” and then on to green pastures from then on out.
I have evolved though over the past year in my relative…[Read more]

Wow, thank you both for sharing. Alan, I think you’ve come to the right place–I am sure Greg will be able to help.
I had a big gap between when I was playing in high school and college, then coming back a year 1/2 ago, but I believe much of my issues were mental.
And still now, the issues i have are mental–I lose focus on what I should be…[Read more]

@wjtakacs Not sure there’s a way to send private messages on here… You can e-mail me at johnelwood@sbcglobal.net. Send me your shipping address and I’ll get the Wind-O out to you; I’ll try to handle this weekend.

Thanks Bill, hope it was helpful. I feel good at times ascending with passive air, but will need to work up to having as strong a sound / dynamics as you’ve developed. My gut is that you’re current setup is most of the way there, you are probably just clamping a bit towards the top of your range.
Wildflower’s posts resonate with me–I think…[Read more]

Steve,
Just posted links to a couple videos in another thread; thought I would post them here as well.
This is me doing harmonic slurs, trying to focus on tightening my aperture from the corners as I ascend–which is easy if I tighten the corners, but difficult if I do what I used to–clamp down my lips top-to-bottom in the middle, cutting off…[Read more]

Your video, as usual, was Gold, Greg–it was really helpful for me and I’m sure everyone else to hear you give specific feedback to Bill with regards to the video he uploaded, was he too puckered, etc. That is really useful information. It was great.
My initial post with the Wind-O stuff above was just prior to your response to Bill.

Bill,
Got it yesterday. It’s pretty much as it seems–it comes with the device and some various bands of different tensions and shims for different size mouths, as well as balloons for adding an element of resistance against the air.
It’s pretty much what I thought–you squeeze from the corners of your mouth to open the hole in the middle…[Read more]

Creepy looking “Facial Flex” video, Bo, but looks interesting / like it might be even more effective than the “Wind-O”–I got that yesterday. Played with it a bit today, I’ll post something about it separately. How has the Facial Flex worked for you? I’m not yet ready to pass judgment on “Wind-O”; going to give it a little more time.
