Hello! I’ve been looking for a solid approach to playing trumpet and am so glad I found WindWorks. It looks like it’s the wind equivalent of the Taubman Approach (piano). The Taubman Approach saved my life at the piano, and I’ve been looking for a wind method that matches the Taubman Approach’s commitment to anatomical truth.

Does anyone have any recommendations on a good beginner trumpet that will last me 4-5 years? I’m considering the pTrumpet Hytech, a new Yamaha YTR-2330, or a used YTR-2335. Any suggesions on which one I should pick? Or is there another trumpet you’d recommend?

Welcome. I would go with a Yamaha over the ptrumpet.

Well I wouldn’t go for pTrumpet either. I thought of buying one though, but not to begin with.

I’d like to add that this is great to start with windworks. Stick with it and don’t get distracted by other methods or youtube gurus…

      Definitely don’t get a pTrumpet.

You can get dozens of good recommendations on a starter trumpet. Have you ever played or will this be the first time you’ve ever tried a trumpet? If you have even a little experience, then by far the best thing would be to go to a good music shop and try a few in your price range to see which feels best to you.

Otherwise, get in touch with Trent Austin at Austin Custom Brass in Kansas City or Steve Dillard (The Horn Trader) in San Diego. They both have a ton of options.

Personally, I’ve been playing on a Carol Brass during my recent return to playing, and it’s very high quality. They are widely regarded as about the best quality-to-price ratio around.

Thanks folks! I don’t live in the US, and the only CarolBrass distributor around me only carries their flugelhorn. I’ll probably go with the Yamaha.
