“It’s such a fine line to positively and usefully experience an “error” or “failure” AND be emotionally detached at the same time…”
Is it accurate to say that results practice and being aware of the point of difference are ways that someone can positively and usefully experience an error? Is this a counter to the thought I have sometimes tha…[Read more]

It’s so empowering to learn that the brain learns through mistakes and that frustration(when handled calmly)is actually a vital part of the learning process. I realize now how much time and energy I’ve wasted avoiding failure and frustration when embracing them could have sped up my learning. I have this image in my mind now of a professional bas…[Read more]

Hello all. I am a trombone player who for many years played with lips firmly pressed together. I am finally getting used to keeping my jaw down and teeth out of the way while bringing my aperture corners horizontally inwards. I find however when I do this, passively releasing air through the visualizer or mouthpiece that I don’t think my lips a…[Read more]

Thanks for the reply John. From my perspective, you are very lucky to be someone who achieved the sympathetic oscillation on the lead pipe right away. I am someone who had at a young age was taught the ‘mm’ formation of the embouchure with the lips right together and it has taken me many months of reprogramming just to be able to consistently for…[Read more]

You are the best Greg! After eight hours of teaching you still have the energy to post a very helpful video; much appreciated! I realize now as well that this conversation was really about the more advanced exercise of achieving sympathetic isolation with the V for victory. You know the stage of the game I’m at; I was thinking more about being a…[Read more]

Of course I meant sympathetic oscillation!😊

A very interesting discussion. It would be interesting to know on average how long it took for WindWorks subscribers to achieve a sympathetic isolation.

I really enjoy reading the Forum and I’ve found some recent posts to be very enlightening. Greg observes in his follow up video to Bill’s recent video that people often don’t maintain the correct shape when moving from the visualizer to the mouthpiece. That really hits home for me and makes me realize that although I’ve been working through the…[Read more]

Thanks so much for posting this Colin, it has really helped me. Intellectually I understand Greg’s concept of the Body’s concert hall and I’ve always tried to do some lead pipe playing but something about watching Javier‘s video has really started to unlock things for me. It’s like for some reason I just lacked the physical intelligence to know w…[Read more]

I agree with everything you’ve said. The website is pedagogically brilliant but having access to great teaching is irreplaceable. The 2 lessons I’ve had gave me an overwhelming amount of very specific feedback that I too hope will shave some months off the journey. Perhaps it’s more accurate to say I wouldn’t have a chance at being on the right…[Read more]

Hi Steve, I understand what you are saying. I can no longer play the way I used to but I have no desire to do so either. Yes people often told me I sounded good but I just got sick of the constant internal dialogues and mantras that were constantly running through my head during rehearsals and concerts. I’d had enough “Hail Mary ” moments and…[Read more]

After 43 years of relying on force & manipulation in my bass trombone playing, I am so happy I found WindWorks! I worked through the foundation stage for 10 months and did have some beneficial results but I suspected that I wasn’t really fully comprehending Greg’s concepts. I felt it was time to contact Greg and I’m so glad I did. Via Skype he…[Read more]

Your post really resonates (pun intended!) with me Elgin. I had my first lesson with Greg a week ago and was so thankful for Greg’s supportive approach. His powers of observation, even over Skype, really are amazing. After working on the Foundation Level of the course for 10 months I decided it was time to check in because I really wasn’t sure if…[Read more]

Very interesting discussion. I’m one of those people who have to deal with dystonia, from years of pushing, clamping and manipulation. The dystonia is not always present, in fact I’ve noticed that if I catch myself actively blowing or “supporting” unnecessarily, as opposed to simply releasing the air(Greg’s slingshot) the dystonia tends to show…[Read more]
