A big thank you for all of your responses which have given me renewed incentive. As we all know, trying to develop new habits, especially when working solo can be a challenge and it is a real boost to receive so much constructive input and advice from others that are on the same journey. Thanks again…(two steps forward, one step back!).

Hi all, I am currently in the middle of the Moderato stage having been gradually making my way through the course over 2 years or so. A few months ago I had a ‘eureka’ moment when (for a few weeks) I actually felt more relaxed when playing and I found it easier to play faster harmonic slurs etc and also produce an improved sound. Unfortunately,…[Read more]

  • Many thanks for the feedback and tips on this. Much appreciated everyone.

  • Hello all, I haven’t posted for as I’ve been happily progressing with the course (two steps forward and one step back!). However, as I have now reached Moderato stage and some of the slightly faster exercises, I’m finding that my tongue is occasionally out of sync with my fingers. If I play the passages more slowly to try and overcome this, the…[Read more]

Thanks Wooter, I’ll give it a try.

Thanks Greg, that explains TMJ. (I still can’t stop my bottom lip folding under on higher notes though?)

    Gary.

Sorry, forgot to ask – Greg, what does ‘TMJ issues’ stand for?

Hi all, this post is particularly relevant to me. I’m a comeback player, currently up to Andante Status Stage. I have an overbite and when I do the tissue exercise I have to consciously move my bottom jaw forward slightly to get the best result with the tissue. If I don’t move my jaw forward, the tissue moves up but nowhere near as much. When…[Read more]

Hi Greg/all, I am a comeback player and have been gradually making my way through the course since October 2020. Things have been going well but I am currently on the Andante Status stage and seem to be running into problems. I have been persevering with harmonic slurs and aperture corners which until recently seemed to be going OK, but I am now…[Read more]

  • Hi Philip, that is really helpful, thanks very much. I will keep persevering.

  • Hi all, this is my first post to the Forum. Having gradually progressed to the end of the Adagio Status Stage, I am struggling with the Descending Single Harmonic (Double Tonguing), primarily because the top of my throat seems to close up when I play ku’s and I am not sure if it should feel like this and whether it will gradually become easier?…[Read more]

Progressed to the Adagio section. Trying to get to grips with descending harmonic double tongued. Struggling a bit!

Still following course and practising most days. Harmonic slurs C to G are improving and I’ve switched from 8ths to 16ths. Currently up to 20 secs of 16ths at 80bpm. Remaining passive until near the end of 20 secs when I’m running out of air!
