John, I really appreciate you taking so much time to write back and explain what you are experiencing. I’m going to follow Greg’s instruction and your advice and keep you posted. I’ve been playing Clarke, Arban’s, St. Jacombe since I was in my teens and I’m 62 now and still I couldn’t get it right. But I just kept plugging away. I have a ministry…[Read more]
That’s what I want to find the balance. I’m going to diligently practice all the way through. Sometimes the only thing that keeps a person from reaching their full potential is the right teacher. I believe we’ve found just that. This has to work. It makes too much sense and it feels right. I’m anxious to get to the higher range to experience how…[Read more]
Ok so does 4 beats at any metronome speed mean 16th notes and 8 beats at any metronome speed mean 32nd notes? That is what I am not getting. Also, what would 5 – 20 seconds at any metronome speed translate to in terms of time signature? I want to play these correctly but I’m not getting it. In the videos that I have seen so far, Greg is speaking…[Read more]
Thank you, Gentlemen. You are both brilliant. Time to work. I’m gonna get this. I studied with Roy Stevens when I was in my teens for four years and we dealt with a lot of tension. I still have my books but could never master the method. This approach is more plausible. Let’s go. I’ll keep you posted.
If he played it I missed it. I’ll check again. I really would like to find a playing example. I don’t want to do it the way I think it is I want to do everything the right way. Thanks.
Hi Team, what is the actual difference between Air Support and Air Kick in order to go do slurs efficiently and improve range? I feel like I’m getting it starting with the Largo C# Harmonic Slurs but I have to play extremely slow in order to feel it as slurs have always been my worse articulation. If I release the air and reshape the mouth the…[Read more]
I have to add this because I think that this approach is so amazing. I’m currently working on some big band arrangement for my favorite hymns and even when I write and think about where I want the arrangement to go and mimic it without my horn I get a headache. Do you know why? Because the first thing I do is tense up my body and pretend I’m…[Read more]
Thanks, Greg. I will do just that and make sure that I am going everything correctly. By the way, my name is Peter. Although I call myself Lead trumPeter I’m working on getting there. So glad I found you. You’re a blessing.
Ok, today I’m still feeling like I’m releasing the air but holding my breath at the same time through my nose. Is that normal or the feeling I should have? I understand the concept and the application of compression I just have to get it to work without getting a headache. I’m spitting water in the shower to solidify the feeling of compression.…[Read more]
Ok, here’s what I’m feeling in practice today 3.8.20: I feel like I’m releasing the air but also like I’m holding air in my mouth because there seems to be a little backup and plenty of air when I take the trumpet down. I’m sure that I have to fix this. If not, going higher will not be good.
Hi leadtrumpeter, totally letting the body…[Read more]
