• Hi Adrien, thanks for your post.

Q.”If we play with passive air flow, we do not control the volume. C is f and then as we change pitch with lip corners G is p. Right?”

A.It will be softer due to change in volume/amount of flow per second because of the change of SHAPE (in this case aperture size).

    Q. “So if we want to play a G soft we have to…[Read more]

Love it Rod, great stuff 🙂

Hey Bill, you will get to the point where you can place the mouthpiece then inhale for sure. Again, the fact that you recognise the difficulty you are having is the path to finding the answer. Take two different approaches: 1. Break it down step by step and look for trigger point i.e. old habits that are kicking in. 2. Place the mouthpiece,…[Read more]

Hi Bill and folks, so Sorry for the delay in getting to the forum.
    Q. “when I go back to my “other” setting when I play my Clarkes or other exercises and music, aren’t I just reinforcing my old bad habits?”
Absolutely not. Does the mmmaaaoooh feel different as far as freedom of flow is concerned? Does it feel easier to play, even in the low r…[Read more]

  • Your English is wonderful my friend. The body need not be involved all the way up. See other thread. Cheers, Greg

  • Depending on the day but anywhere up to an A above double high C. It’s a short squeak note and probably mp at best but you can hear the centre. I must reinforce that the body is for long tones and loud notes, the mouth/SHAPE creates the pitch. Cheers Greg

  • Stick with it, it is possible my friend. It is symptomatic of other issues that the Singing C will undo. Step 1 and 6 are PASSIVE, can you get to the G doing those? How are the fast soft harmonic slurs of step 6? Cheers, Greg

  • Hi @driemermk don’t do anything, just allow it to be whatever volume. Watch the video again and you’ll see I mention this. Simply notice the volume change, don’t try to control it. Cheers, Greg.

  • BIG changes are coming to Sundays @ WindWorks! See below for your zoom link.

Starting in just over an hour, Greg will be conducting the first of his new weekly WindWorks Forum LIVE workshops.

Please come along ready to play, ask questions or simply watch and enjoy!

We are creating a more inclusive WindWorks platform to get you on your…[Read more]

  • Hi Tom, how are you my friend. No I don’t want people trying to “create” what they think the chops should look like, this will cause manipulation and get away from the search for the optimum, natural placement of the mouthpiece. Everyone is different so that is why I use the tissues and rim to find the natural setup of the individual. The…[Read more]

  • @driemermk It’s a little hard to say without seeing you, it is a very fine line. If you feel the centre of the lip go into sympathetic oscillation as the Aperture Corners find their spot, then all is well. Really get into the closed eyes humming and see if the sensation is the same. Also use Passive Reduction, no body engagement to test it. Cheers, Greg

  • Greg Spence replied to the topic Abdominals in the forum WindWorks 7 years, 4 months ago

Hi Adrien, what an insightful and comprehensive question.

To be more specific? If you whisper then slowly engage the voice and then work towards a shout, how do the abdominals work and do you ever really have to think about it?

To be honest, the back and side muscles, I have never been able to isolate when playing but I am sure they must be…[Read more]

  • Hi again, no not a problem, the demands get harder i.e. faster and longer duration and please to do not be limited by the green boxes. It is just a means to get the harmonic slurs faster to improve efficiency. Thanks

  • Hi Francis, the Allegro and Presto Status Stages are the Premium Level not the Foundation Level. We are very close to launching the Premium Level, Within the next 2-3 weeks. Cheers, Greg

  • Hey Jim, I see the confusion. There is no “k” here, instead of it being single note tongue slur it is double note tongue slur, not double tongue. I love how these discrepancies arise. Cheers. Greg

Hugh, that sounds fine but your sensation of the the “moving forward”. I certainly don’t want the lips rolling back over the teeth. Whether the aperture gets horizontally smaller is a matter of personal sensation rather than actual fact. I am not concerned if it actually gets smaller or it feels like it gets smaller, I just want you to be aware…[Read more]

  • Yes, totally focus on BCH (Body’s Concert Hall) and stay loose. The buzz is not essential and I do not want it causing negative tension issues. Greg

  • Hi guys. Jim, simply enact the Valsalva choking to experience a seriously tight throat. Then try expelling all of your air by using you abdominal muscles, emptying the air form the lungs but with a loose open throat. Can you feel the difference in the two? Which one are you doing when playing? Do these little tricks with your eyes closed. Cheers

No time wasted at all Rod. Busily preparing the next Level and happy to check in every so often to see what is happening. Cheers.

  • What a great question 🙂 All fixed now. This is exactly why we have done the limited launch, to iron out errors like that. Thanks Francis!
