Fantastic Jim.. There is a whole load of energy there when allow the the body to let go and simply wait for the tongue to release the air. Finding where the body is holding is the secret.

Hi Kevin, I sure do. I will be adding videos of them eventually. Cheers
Greg Spence replied to the topic Question on exercises Ive been doing awhile in the forum WindWorks 7 years, 4 months ago
WOW… it is amazing to see this. I have done a mouthpiece buzz/lip bend video for the Allegro Status Stage very much on the same path, simply with a little more focus on process and making sure those negative habits don’t creep in.
The exercises in the above video are valid but very advanced so be sure pure process is adhered to.
One small…[Read more]

Hey Jim, without seeing you, it is a little difficult to say BUT imagine the full balloon i.e. full lungs, can you sit there and after taking a full breath, seal the mouth either at the lips or with the tongue so the air cannot escape? IF so, do this and totally let go of any contraction in the air support muscles. The air still want to come…[Read more]
Greg Spence replied to the topic Finished, now what? in the forum WindWorks 7 years, 4 months ago
Hey Kevin, I love your opening line, never going to be finished 🙂 You are spot on there.
Overkill is right. It is a matter of finding what you can and can’t do. Do the early stages as a warm up and quickly get through to your trouble areas. Chipping away at what you can’t yet do with focus on efficiency.
I am sitting here rendering the E…[Read more]

Hi Adrien, I still think Body’s Concert Hall throughout the entire range on the instrument. There is a link somewhere here on falsetto, check that out too. Cheers

Hi Jim, once you back off the flow and understand the oscillation of the air column throughout the body/instrument system, you get the sensation of the system resonating and projecting. Are oyu doing a lot of eyes closed, passive reduction humming?

Hey there Jutta, great news. Stick with it.
Cheers,

I am actually about to do a video along the lines of “the air goes in to the lungs” for the Allegro Status Stage. What we do with the ribs and musculature around the lungs can determine how much the lungs expand and therefore the quantity of air in the lungs.
If you relax your abdominal muscles and let the belly fall out (not pushed or forced…[Read more]
Greg Spence replied to the topic Work with a mute? in the forum WindWorks 7 years, 4 months ago
Hi Frank, practice mutes are a necessary evil sometimes unfortunately. They are a last resort of course because of the perception of sound and the back pressure and tuning instability they offer. However playing is always better than not playing. A cheaper option in the Shmute and the more exy version is the Yamaha silent brass. Cheers

Keep working through the course. You need to get lost to be able to find the quickest way there. Just stick to the process, and then get in to results driven and be aware of the point of difference. Also keep in mind the 1% Rule of relaxing the body to get more sound and body resonance with the voice. Lots of closed eyes practise. There are…[Read more]

2wellsjtj At least you can recognise this. That is important. Follow the process and it will come over time. Reprogramming can be frustrating. Be happy you are doing it now and not in 10 years time. Stick with it.
Greg Spence replied to the topic The corners.. in the forum WindWorks 7 years, 5 months ago
Hi Bill, timing huh?! 🙂 There is the disconnect. Ooooh has heaps of aperture corner firmness. You can keep the firmness at the corners and introduce or stop the lip oscillation. Cheers
Greg Spence replied to the topic The corners.. in the forum WindWorks 7 years, 5 months ago
jutta.spaniol Consider this… aaaaaaaaah = no tension in the aperture corners – ooooooooh = a degree of tension in the aperture corners. “How much tension?” you might ask, that is really of no concern. You will find the optimum amount of aperture corner firmness by working through the exercises and improving flexibility using the Practice…[Read more]

Hi Frank, I am very happy to hear you are having good outcomes. It is simple but it works 🙂
Greg Spence replied to the topic The corners.. in the forum WindWorks 7 years, 5 months ago
Hi wellsjtj, well if the significant impact on you playing is positive, then yes, you are correct. Basically, I just want to get the focus away from clamping the top and bottom lips together so recognising the aperture corners can help understand and experience the air column, this in turn reduces clamping.
A lot of people refer to the corners…[Read more]
