Feelin odd is good as it shows a difference. If it felt the same, it probably is so the results will be the same 🙂

Greg Spence replied to the topic The Tongue in the forum WindWorks 6 years, 10 months ago
Hi Eric, there is a whole heap of tongue explanation/material coming in the Ultimate Level. It is quite complex and more appropriate for extended range so is purposely omitted in the earlier levels. Basically I use the simplified line of “the lips choose the pitch/overtone, the tongue makes it sound good” approach, you may have seen that. Have…[Read more]
Greg Spence replied to the topic Progress chart labels a tad confusing? in the forum WindWorks 6 years, 10 months ago
Hey Peter, totally not offended, thanks for taking the time. I will do a video demo. It’s not notes per row, rather notes per beat and when you progress through the course it turns in to quavers/eighth notes and semiquavers/sixteenth notes. Simply play the exercise as written with the metronome set at the desired speed. I’ll have a look at it,…[Read more]
Greg Spence replied to the topic Starting notes in the forum WindWorks 6 years, 10 months ago
Hey Thom, be sure to watch the early videos over and over and over. Eventually the note will speak naturally. Your lip oscillation isn’t yet 100% sympathetic, it is taking time to respond to the change in air pressure, that’s OK, stick with it. I suggest lots of visualise (or finger), tissue, mouthpiece (no buzz) then add leadpipe practise and…[Read more]
Greg Spence replied to the topic Typo?? Are wrong answers "Largo C# Harmonic Slur Quiz" flagged correctly? in the forum WindWorks 6 years, 10 months ago
Hey Peter, very, very well picked, gold star for you 🙂 I am not sure whether initially I was saying that you could change pitch, albeit inefficiently, by pushing hard onto the chops or whether it was simply an error. Either way, I have altered the question slightly to eliminate confusion. Many Thanks, Greg
Greg Spence replied to the topic Falsetto? in the forum WindWorks 6 years, 10 months ago
Hey Francis, so pleased you are enjoying the course. I have experimented with the ventricular cords for the low harmonic drones but only limited research with falsetto so far (but I have a killer falsetto voice after a vodka or two!!!). In a random kind of way there is a relationship and I will be discussing this further in the extended range of…[Read more]

Cool, that would be good to see. I love the Rafael Mendez clip where he compares playing to conversation. Love it. Thanks for posting, it gave me a chance to reinforce my approach and traps to look out for 🙂
Cheers,
Greg

Stick with it buddy. Lots of passive reduction and humming, bch breath, EYES CLOSED, don’t rush the sympathetic oscillation, it may take a while. Aaahoooh, tissue, visualiser. Embrace any conflicting thoughts and weird sensations, difference is good. Embrace the strangeness. Its a tough but ultimately joyous adventure. Keep in mind the s…[Read more]

Hey Tom, if you can do it in the Practice Room you can do it on the gig! What is your strike rate % in the Practice Room?
Choose your gigs is the best advice I can give. Try it out on a gig where it doesn’t matter if you spray or miss.
It sounds purely like a trust issue so over time, as your awareness and confidence grows, youll have no p…[Read more]

Hi Elgin, thanks for your message. I am intrigued and will have a listen. I know Peter so it will be interesting to hear.
I feel taking the word “wind” out of one of the most respected brass approaches misses the intention of the “Wind and Song” concept BUT I might be misinterpreing what Peter means.
If he is alluding to people overblo…[Read more]
Greg Spence replied to the topic Singing C, third video – Is Greg changing third valve slide? in the forum WindWorks 6 years, 11 months ago
Hey there Peter, welcome to WindWorks, great to have you here. I’ll have a look but I am guessing I don’t use the tuning slide. The rationale is that given the process is going through the harmonmic series, the notes will be out of tune and I want the focus to be on optimum efficiency. You’ll discover as you progress through the course that…[Read more]

Hey Paul thanks for sharing! As I go through my golf experimentation, the process I undertake is EXACTLY what you explain above. Just when you think you’ve “got it” go back and watch it again, you’ll find something new or in my case re-discover what I thought I was doing but wasn’t. I am about to post in the gold thread more about this.…[Read more]

Paul, if there was an award for most insightful comment, you would win it!
I am going through EXACTLY the same process with Aimee (my youtube golf instructor) and THAT is the hardest thing to get people to realise – ONE listen or viewing of a video is merely scratching the surface. Totaly “getting it” is the next step, then implementing it…[Read more]
Greg Spence replied to the topic more shape questions in the forum WindWorks 6 years, 11 months ago
Hey Rod, the SHAPE of every note is explained and developed as you progress through the course. If you are freely playing everything in the Foundation Level, then it might be time to graduate to the Premium. The course is designed intentionally to eliminate as much negative tension as possible before moving on. As you said, the answers most…[Read more]
Greg Spence replied to the topic Moderato double and triple tongue in the forum WindWorks 6 years, 11 months ago
Hey Ronald, the freer the execution of the these techniques, the more efficient you become. The more efficient you become, the less likely you are to manipulate when ascending in range. Freeing up the tongue as you get into the upper register is very important in finding upper register SHAPE. I hope we see you around again and I recommend the…[Read more]

Hi guys, sorry about the rate reply. I cannot answer for sure as there are so many variables.
Let’s eliminate instrument first, is it clean or is there a chance there are some undesirables in the leadpipe?
The wider aperture and more airflow may be playing a role.
The temperature variations mentioned above is interesting but I would…[Read more]

@Simes, there is no “one way” to release throat tension and if it is working for you then go right ahead!!! 🙂
@Eric, It is all about discovering the “sensation of freedom” so I urge you to try doing exactly as I do in the video. If your airstream is hitting the tissue, straight out, with a natural jaw position, login says you could lightly…[Read more]

Hey Luis, thanks for your input and for using WindWorks.
This is different for everyone and you said you are experiencing improvement so who can argue with that?! 🙂
My initial reaction was – observe but don’t try to control. We all play be feel but if you TRY to control the feeling, you may inadvertently begin to manipulate.
If you can…[Read more]
