Hi and welcome to WindWorks Mats.
Tongue level cannot substitute for pitch change without knowing what the aperture corners are doing.
Are there any alternate fingering positions you can use to get a lower but closer harmonic?
You will see as you work through the course why I am so keen to learn more about this instrument. I am going to…[Read more]
Greg Spence replied to the topic Proper Pressure in the forum WindWorks 6 years, 1 month ago
Hi guys, I totally agree with Eric (that’s two days in a row haha, love ya work Eric). Too little pressure will not enable the oscillator to respond to the change in air pressure and therefore have a weak, airy sounds and more than likely air escaping at the aperture corners.
With lots of humming and a good idea of sound, you will be able to…[Read more]

Holy Moly Steve, I just saw your videos…amazing! We need to talk.
While you are covering a VAST amount of material, I think you could cut it a LOT and spend more time on music. I am not sure that coming back through the day mixing technical development and repertoire the way you are doing it is the best approach; trust me I used to do this…[Read more]

Hey there guys, ideally there is no “puff” out of the lip but without seeing you it is a little hard to determine. When doing the AaahOooh, I would suspect there is no puff so in letting go of the grip in the oscillator, you might be overdoing it?!?!? Just guessing.
Cheers,
Greg

Judging by the comments, not too many have sat through my vid but I actually think it is probably the best technical video I have done as well as all of the mind STUFF. Ozzieland would love to have you Bill.
I am far from convinced about the Wind-o and would look for real life reviews. I found it odd that neither of the dudes actually used it.…[Read more]

Greg Spence replied to the topic Push the main tuning slide in the forum WindWorks 6 years, 1 month ago
Hey Bo, I totally agree with Eric. I don’t want to speculate without seeing your gear but 16mm is too much and 12mm is much closer to the norm. As Eric said, a tight setup will send you sharp so oyu are compensating with the tuning slide. The #wihsc forces you to “let go” so loosening off will send the pitch lower.

Hey guys, here’s my take. Get your popcorn out. It’s a long ride but I think you’ll be able to relate and find it worthwhile.
Bill, sometimes I may have put words in your mouth so don’t don’t panic if your intention was slightly different. The points I make may be relevant for others.
Thanks for this thread everyone!!!

This is why I LOVE this forum, enthusiastic conversation without the nonsense, thanks guys!
Whistling is like blowing over the top of a bottle or a flute and is known as a Helmholtz Resonator which is different to a stopped pipe like a trumpet so the science is slightly different but that doesn’t matter… we are talking about sensation and YES @e…[Read more]

Greg Spence replied to the topic Lip Buzzing in the forum WindWorks 6 years, 2 months ago
Hey Peter, yep that’s fine. Be sure to close your eyes and ask yourself:
1. Is it PASSIVE
2. Are the lips interacting with the air as if they are the vocal cords? Not sure? Hum a PASSIVE note and appreciate the sensation of it then compare it to the lip buzz.
For those of you that are reading this but have not seen the course, it will be…[Read more]
