Hui guys, thanks for your questions!
@Wellsjtj – The Singing C Series is about purity of process. I would love to see you doing them so shoot me an email if you have time to get on to skype or facetime for a minute or two. I have seen many serious Pro’s have real trouble, even in this range, to do the correct process.
Are you really on the…[Read more]
Greg Spence replied to the topic Playing louder in the forum WindWorks 7 years ago
Hi Matthieu, thanks for using WindWorks. There are a couple of instant concerns I have in regards to your post:
1. Practising with a mute most of the time is quite destructive for several reasons including sound development and simply the feel of what of what it should be like to play; you could be encouraging negative tension and over-blowing.…[Read more]
Greg Spence replied to the topic Shape development question for Greg in the forum WindWorks 7 years, 1 month ago
That all sounds perfect Rod. Develop it softly then as you increase volume and duration, be sure the feeling of the BCH (Body’s Concert Hall) is maintained.
I encourage everyone to push their limits but to stay utterly mindful to recognise any choking and overexertion.
The deep psychological messages you are sending yourself are gold!

Hey Matthieu, thanks for using WindWorks. I had this exact problem when I was younger.
I suggest you never have this problem when using the voice talking or singing.
Over time, you will learn to only take the amount of air required to get through the phrases you need to play.
The BackSwing and Body’s Concert Hall exercises are for creating…[Read more]

Hey there Haydn, watch this video.
How are your harmonic slurs coming along? Too much mp pressure will hinder their improvement.

Greg Spence replied to the topic Shape question. in the forum WindWorks 7 years, 1 month ago
Hey Rod, SHAPE is the head bit. Face, lips, jaw, tongue, all the bits above the neck that affect pitch. Believe it or not, I dont want to get too analytical about that.
It’s just a way of getting people away from the “blow harder to play higher” mentality and disregarding what the face is doing completely.
Let’s just say as a super condensed…[Read more]

Yes and Yes. You’ll see in one of the videos I use a boba/bubble tea plastic straw, even through that is environmentally frowned upon here in Australia. 🙂

Him Jim, really get the tissue going for air direction. You have demonstrated beautifully the ups and downs of reprogramming. It is a complex process, not merely a choice to change. You are exploring based on ideas and feelings. You will have ups and down but you are headed in the right direction. Keep watching the videos, there is so much…[Read more]

All fixed. Well done for picking it up. There must be people out there being too polite to tell me 🙂 (or not listening to the trax #sprung). Simple duplication error. All sorted. Thanks again. Greg

Greg Spence replied to the topic Double buzz in the forum WindWorks 7 years, 1 month ago
Hi Beautymountainfarm2, My understanding of the double buzz is the lips are to tight for the note you are trying to play. I suggest doing some really soft ‘pu’ attacks followed by a long soft tone.
Once you have done that starting on the Bb really softly, start doing some gradual crescendos to see where it breaks up, then rest and go up to B, C…[Read more]

Fantastic! Seems the penny has dropped.
I have been considering where to place my breath attack video in the course.
Thank you for your kind words and congratulations and kudos to you for sticking with the process and really going deep in to the reprogramming we need to embrace. You totally seem to understand the importance of “the s…[Read more]

Hey Giuseppe, I do cover buzzing in a lot of detail in the course. Perhaps leave it until you see my approach.
Book 1 was published in 2004 and those that know that book, then the books and now WindWorks will see the development and refinement of the approaches. It is a never ending quest to deliver more concise information.

Greg Spence replied to the topic Grunting or Humming while playing?? in the forum WindWorks 7 years, 2 months ago
Hey there Ed, this is a really common problem. The 2 things to conquer first:
1. Understand how the lips and air column work when playing and that you don’t have to engage the larynx when playing – I’m pretty sure you have this sorted.
2. Be aware of the feeling or sensation of the open throat. Have you seen the “body’s concert hall breath”…[Read more]

Hi Giuseppe, thanks for being part of WindWorks. Really watch the videos closely and be sure you are copying the process. As Rod pointed out, and I totally agree, you need to be transferring your new skills to the trumpet and to observe what is happening. In the search for a beautiful tone, you may begin to manipulate a little and that is OK…[Read more]
