• G’Dy Bob, thanks for your post.

I do not believe you will have done any long term damage but of course I say that without seeing you.

The change in sensation can be very challenging and you only have to look around the forum here to see how different people deal with “making changes”.

From other posts I see you seem to be making head way so…[Read more]

  • Hi! The effort you have gone to to write this post shows your passion and desire for better results.

Learning to play an instrument can create anxiety for many and if you are anxious by nature then the difficulties can be magnified and multiplied. I do not, however, attribute ones ability to succeed on the instrument to their genetic…[Read more]

  • Hey there kcappozzo, you are not the first to ask so don’t panic.

I am doing a video on this today for you so stand by!

    Cheers,
    Greg

p.s. there is a video on the WindWorks FB page already but I’m incorporating this one into the new trial module of videos.

  • Hi All, here is a response from Matt, our WindWorks IT Wizard.

“That will be the Recaptcha thinking he’s a bot. Then it likely changes its mind and lets him through. Not sure there’s much we can do about this, because we definitely need to have Recaptcha in place. We’ve already got the text “If you receive an error when submitting this form, you…[Read more]

  • Hi SvV, thanks for your thoughts. I have seen people make astonishing changes by merely exposing them to new sensations, however, I never expect that to happen with everyone.

Our playing is so deeply wired that generally it takes longer to find the root cause in the psychology and to amend it.

    Cheers.

  • Hey Don, thanks for the post and thanks for using WindWorks.

Yeah, as I said in the newly added video Diagnosis Disorder, finding issues is tough but being open to change allows us to have experiences like what you mentioned.

I’m pleased you have discovered it is more that just a “nice idea” haha

Take your time and enjoy your…[Read more]

  • Hi SvV,
Thanks for your post. I’ve heard of Pops of course and have taught people that have had lessons with him but I don’t know his methods. I haven’t been to his site. I don’t have enough time for my own at times πŸ™‚

I’d prefer not to comment on your suspicions other than saying you are always wise to question.

I’m sure he is an…[Read more]

  • G’Day Greg, every exercise is in treble and bass clef. There are plenty of lower brass players here as the concepts are universal. I look forward to seeing you two argue here on the forum haha.

  • Hey there Rob, usually people experience a loss in range when taking steps back to realign their playing.

Occasionally people will discover that the new openness facilitates some higher range.

So consider what you said, “I was owning F’s and now I don’t” to paraphrase. Think about the logistics of that. There was a process that you took to be…[Read more]

  • Hi guys, I really appreciate this feedback. I totally, absolutely and utterly agree with what you have written here and I am in the process of fixing it.

Given I am so “inside” the system creating content, it is very tough to get an external perspective so I can’t say enough how much I appreciate you taking the time to write this down.

    As far…[Read more]

Hey Rob, Nate is right on the money.

Firstly you need to recognise the feeling of the ku ku ku then add each step.

Start with the aahooh and even say the ku aloud, then disengage the vocal cords, add tissue and visualiser (or fingers), mouthpiece then lead pipe.

You’ll soon discover which part of the process you are compromising when you are p…[Read more]

  • Greg Spence replied to the topic Harmonic Slurs/Lip Trills in the forum WindWorks 6 years ago

Hey Rob, the movement of the tongue Will not facilitate the change in lip shape.

Lip trills are a change of pitch. There is a common misconception that the change in tongue position will change the pitch by varying the speed of the airflow; this is simply incorrect.

I highly recommend going and watching and also completing the harmonic slurred…[Read more]

  • Greg Spence replied to the topic Double Tonguing in the forum WindWorks 6 years ago

Hey Rob, strange I thought I replied to this question somewhere but now I can’t find it, very odd.

As Nate said the KU is the lowering of the tongue away from the roof of the mouth like when saying kookaburra, koala, kangaroo. You are not using your voice when playing but the action of the tongue is the same.

Close your eyes and say these w…[Read more]

  • Greg Spence replied to the topic Breath Attacks, PU Attacks in the forum WindWorks 6 years ago

Hi Bennsky, they are definitely not breath attacks. The purpose of the Pu-Lip-Ku-KMT-Tu is to become aware of the feeling of the RELEASE of air using unfamiliar techniques to create a greater awareness of the system.

With a breath attack there is no RELEASE as such as the note is formed around flow.

  • I have SO MUCH to say about this, it will be a video for the new year πŸ™‚

  • Greg Spence replied to the topic My MTM journey, up to now. in the forum WindWorks 6 years ago

Hey guys, thanks for the comments. The first thing I noticed when I was developing all of this was too the recognition of greater endurance. This is of course due to better efficiency and better efficiency will then in turn develop your range as you stop fighting the horn and trying to force the upper register.

All the best and have a great…[Read more]

  • Greg Spence replied to the topic Sore Cheeks/Jaws? in the forum WindWorks 6 years ago

Again my friend, you have answered your own question. Your muscles are being used in an unfamiliar way so there is a period of readjustment. Just be sure to rest well and keep that magnifying glass handy.

    Cheers.

  • Hey Bennsky, you have partially answered your own question πŸ™‚

    1. Develop accuracy of SHAPE, the pitch change mechanism

    2. It’s a very powerful psychological exercise to disengaged the body from pitch. The tendency is to really overblow when entering higher lines or stab notes so learning to find the correct SHAPE without engaging the body and…[Read more]
