G’Day Brad, thanks for posting this.
Still working on the support group platform but we are implementing something really cool.
Listening and developing your own voice based on the collective inspirations is so supercritical.
I once played with Wayne Newton. He had a touring lead player name Kevin with him. The sound that I heard come out…[Read more]

G’Day Greg, thanks so much for sharing and I’m sorry I had to jump in, we would have got to the end of the session and there would have been some unresolved things that needed to be addressed.
I need you to know that I loved hearing about your experiences and processes and am keen to hear how it all played out.
Great work.
Cheers,
Greg

I had never heard of Wallace but wow, sweet. Here’s a link! https://youtu.be/KCxmkkRm500
I am doing hours on the computer so I have the sound of waves. I can’t concentrate with music on! My analytical mind fires up and I lose focus.

Hi everyone! My name is Greg and I have been playing trumpet for 35 years.
Went through hell trying to fix my playing and my research led me to discover things that no one ever told me.
I played professionally for 25 years and now whilst still doing the occasional gig, I spend my time running a brass education website.
I’m looking forward to…[Read more]

Hi Lotherro1, in the true spirit of ‘Going to Exremes’ this is going to happen in the “letting go” process.
Breath attack a Low C (PASSIVELY) at ppp and gradually open the aperture and then close it again. Notice how the body wants to get involved and resist!!!
Cheers,
Greg

Hey Steve, it is really important that I add that listening to great players in REAL LIFE to appreciate the acoustic sound of the instrument is HIGHLY advisable.
Ultimately, I want all of the skills developed here to be triggered subconsciously based on the sound model in your head. We don’t want to be “thinking” technically when playing. The…[Read more]

Hey there Oscar, welcome to WindWorks and thanks for your email. I don’t put the valve fingerings under the notes as I want people to learn them from memory asap. Here is a fingering chart:

Hey Steve, thanks for posting and a warm welcome to WindWorks.
As many here will agree, take your time at the start and carefully work through the videos and drills, writing your thoughts in the progress boxes then repeat, repeat and the repeat some more the exercise.
Efficiency is the real key to successful and consistent development.…[Read more]

You have eloquently outlined the reason I have grey hair my friend!
Everyone needs to experience what you have presented here but most doubt the course PROCESS rather than their “illusion of competence!”.
There are many elements here to synchronise and conscious awareness of everything you are doing is paramount.

Hey guys. TMJ is TemporoMandibular Joint Disorder which is a condition that can develop in the jaw if it is pushed too far forward. Add arm pressure the trumpet and you have big issues.
The visualiser exercise will not cause this and I must stress, this is simply a mouthpiece placement drill for the lower register range and to set you up for the…[Read more]
Greg Spence replied to the topic low tongue in the forum WindWorks 2 years, 7 months ago
Hey there Wouter, thanks for posting this.
The whole tongue position issue is complex. The idea is to keep the tongue as low as it needs to be for the intended pitch. Tongue position also changes the resonance of the oral cavity and therefore the timbre of the note.
There exists the idea that the higher the tongue, the higher the note which…[Read more]
