Hey guys. I too have an overbite. Without seeing exactly what is going on it is difficult to say.
In order to get vertical alignment at the aperture, I had to bring the jaw forward SLIGHTLY (No TMJ issues when done correctly!). Did it feel weird? Yes! Did it take time to get used to? Yes! Did it sound good at the start? NO WAY!

Hey there Wouter, thanks for the question.
It is quite complex to explain in a few words and without seeing what you are actually doing.
I don’t usually use the terms “kick” or “whip” when it comes to releasing the energy with the tongue. I simply want the tongue (whatever way you are articulating) to move independently of everything else in…[Read more]

Hey Rob, thanks for posting this.
Yeah, velocity and frequency are a tricky one to get the head around.
It also stems from the sensation of the body engaging to play higher notes louder, thus the assumption is made that the body is involved for the higher pitches themselves rather than the volume.
The Singing C Series amply demonstrates how…[Read more]

Yep, the higher the note, the less air used.
I really feel the value here is remaining PASSIVE. I think an E would be the best note. Any higher can encourage unnecessary, negative tension.
My big issue with the Whisper G Cat Anderson method, whilst it has plenty of merit, it encourages activity that people don’t recognise. When done on a low…[Read more]

Hey there Rob, I’ll have to go and test that 🙂 I suggest if you are playing a soft Low C, it stands to reason you could. I’m excited to test this. The duration, of course, isn’t the ultimate aim of the exercise, rather the sensation of freedom. Stand By…

You have beautifully described what we after Brit!
The “letting go” of the abdomen wall (belly breathing) is a lowering of the diaphragm. Then the expansion you describe takes place. I must stress that people will experience this sensation in different ways but the essence of what you say and your experience sounds perfect.

I hope the message is clear. I get it is a tough slog, especially given I jump around a lot. Hopefully the Huberman video clarifies what I am trying to say.
It’s such a fine line to positively and usefully experience an “error” or “failure” AND be emotionally detached at the same time.
